Opheliaism of the day:
Abra: “Ophelia, it’s quiet time. Mommy’s ears need a break.”
Ophelia: “Why?”
Abra: “ Because my brain might explode.”
After 5 minutes of constant Ophelia chattering (one guess where she gets that from!), I laid down on the couch. Standing beside me…
Ophelia: “Mommy! Your brain exploded!”
In the Soup
•November 17, 2009 • Leave a Comment“Do you have a kinder, more adaptable friend in the food world than soup? Who soothes you when you are ill? Who refuses to leave you when you are impoverished and stretches its resources to give you a hearty sustenance and cheer? Who warms you in the winter and cools you in the summer? Yet who also is capable of doing honor to your richest table and impressing your most demanding guests? …Soup does its loyal best, no matter what undignified conditions are imposed upon it. You don’t catch steak hanging around when you’re poor and sick, do you?”

Craigslist Finds
•November 6, 2009 • 4 CommentsI’ve been cruising around on craigslist looking for a new oven for the farmhouse. I’ve found these other treasures, which we don’t need and can’t afford, but i thought they were worth sharing in case someone did…

Isn't this gorgeous? One day I want this couch in my livingroom....Ben can take the leather one and put it in the office!

My crazy daughter thought 53 degree weather was perfect for playing outside. I got her to put on shoes, a hat and a jacket. She said she wasn’t cold. Sheesh.
Real Food Appreciation
•October 26, 2009 • 2 CommentsI’ve never been able to get my kids to eat baby food. I can’t blame them. It’s so gross. Today over breakfast, I was watching Mira’s expressions and listening to the yummy sounds she made as I fed her pancakes with blueberry syrup, scrambled eggs with melted cheddar and roast potatoes leftover from dinner. Could America’s health problems, our addiction to over flavored, fried foods stem from not teaching our children what good food is from the beginning? Just a thought.
For Ophelia
•October 23, 2009 • 1 CommentBless O Lord, this food to our use,
And us to thy loving service;
And make us ever mindful of the needs of others,
In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
